The top prize is the Concha de Oro (Golden Shell), with Conchas de Plata (Silver) awarded to direction, screenplay, cinematography, and performances.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year&#8217;s poster face is Argentinian actor Ricardo Dar\u00edn, a two-decade regular at the festival. The honorary (San Sebastian Prize) Premio Donostia \u2014 recognizing a lifetime of work \u2014 goes to German director <\/span><b>Werner Herzog<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, presented during the opening gala at the Kursaal. Small, unfussy, exactly the kind of place that doesn&#8217;t try too hard \u2014 which, during a week this chaotic, is precisely what you want.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bertakoteka.com\/es\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Bertakoteka<\/b><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Parte Vieja) Opened by the team behind Michelin-starred AMA in Tolosa, on Calle Ferm\u00edn Calbet\u00f3n. Bar upstairs, sit-down restaurant downstairs. Their hake and their cheesecake have both been singled out by the Michelin Guide, and honestly, both deserve it. Go for the bar if you&#8217;re short on time, book the txoko downstairs if you want to actually sit down after a late screening.<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bertakoteka.com\/en\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bertakoteka.com<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/restaurantealboka.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><b>Alboka<\/b><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Gros) A quiet, contemporary bistro a few minutes from the Kursaal, run by three young partners trained at the Basque Culinary Center. Seasonal, vegetable-forward cooking with the occasional surprise \u2014 we&#8217;ve had a memorable scallop-and-borage dish here that had nothing to do with a typical pintxo, in the best way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">None of these need a festival badge to get into. Just good timing and, during the busiest days, a reservation where one&#8217;s possible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><b>And for the coffee in between<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sometimes you don&#8217;t need a meal \u2014 just a really good coffee and somewhere to pause for a few minutes before the next screening.
